Meet PENELOPE SWEET PICKLES!!! We were made aware of this precious hippo and the awesome rescue who saved her- Ghetto Rescue FFoundation (GRFF) – by our dear friend and fellow advocate, Stephanie Doris. After learning more about this rescue, their efforts, Penelope Sweet Pickles and their need for help we were more than happy to assist. Attached are the photos of the conditions Penelope was found in, her recent needed surgery and information on the small LA based rescue dedicated to helping the ones no one wants. The Stand Up For Pits Foundation and all we do was/is inspired by a Pibble named Angel, who was horribly abused and no one wanted. Every single life matters and deserves a chance and we are so happy to have played a role in helping this precious soul get the chance at life she so much deserves. Thank you all for your continued support and donations that make it possible for us to continue to help.

“Dear SUFP Foundation,

GRFF is primarily made up of LAPD officers who volunteer and are working in the field in Los Angeles. Since we have a name in the ghetto and with the other police officers, we receive “tips” on a lot of dogs. We can’t help them all with a small rescue group, but we can help some. We go into places the general public won’t and can’t, both on and off duty.

We received a “tip” on twitter from a woman describing in detail, a very nice street dog living in horrible conditions. The tipster also advised that the dog appeared injured.

One of our volunteers (R-in uniform) went to the location, and cautiously went inside. The building was a complete wreck and hazardous area. R took photos of the filth, broken glass and other hazards. She was able to locate the dog, and discovered a VERY sweet and limping girl (later named Penelope Sweet Pickles). R noticed a large, wide scar running down the length of the PSP’s back. She called me and I directed her to the nearby Vet. Miss Pickles stayed there for a day until we could move her to foster care. There she was able to eat, rest and get healthier. She is perfect. She recently went for more Xrays and our Vet’s office. He described her leg problem as an old injury, a broken leg, that healed on it’s own. Additionally she had a luxating patella, and needed surgery to improve on her mobility and discomfort.

She had knee surgery a few days ago, and is doing well. She is truly loved everywhere she goes. She will be available for adoption when she is healed.
We can’t say “yes” to dogs without donations, so we are truly appreciative and moved by the generosity of the Stand Up For Pits Foundation to help with Penelope Sweet Pickles surgery!

We think street dogs make the most appreciative special friends. It hurts my heart knowing that a dog like Penelope with no character flaws had to be timid and scared, and eat very little food to survive, while she waited for us to find her. I’m always looking.

Thank you again! Tami Baumann (Sergeant at 77th Division LAPD)”
