We were notified of Pickles through one of our board member’s friends, Christina Spalla. Christina saved Pickles not just once, but twice. She was pulled from the Carson shelter just a couple of weeks ago, and was later discovered to be pregnant AND have pneumonia. When the bills started racking up for Pickles’ & the Mini Pickles’ care, the group that was going to take them on changed their mind. Christina, who could have just as easily left Pickles, has been killing herself to pay off the hefty bill for mom & babies while also trying desperately to find them a foster home. When the Stand Up For Pits Foundation was notified of this situation, we quickly realized how desperate they were for help. We covered the veterinary bill- including any unexpected costs for mom & pups- to help take the load off of sweet Christina’s back and to get these healthy hippos discharged from the vet’s office. We now need a LOCAL, QUALIFIED foster for Mama Pickles and her 3 babies. They are just a couple of weeks old and still nursing, and mama does all the work; i.e. she feeds them, makes them potty, and cleans them. All this precious, precious family needs is a warm, safe, loving home to grow in for the next couple of months.
