ANN-MARIE THACKER JOHNSON

Itchy and Scratchy were placed in a dumpster like trash in a cat crate after both of them were almost starved, full of manage and had their ears cut off with scissors back in November 2012. I am sad to say that after everything else, Itchy lost his battle with parvo. But Scratchy weighing in at 9 pounds when found is now 101.3 pounds and the love of my life. This boy has taught me more than anyone in the rescue or within this breed – he taught me no matter how bad he was treated he could not just trust again – he could love anyone and everyone. It took a community to help Scratchy from the person who took the time to find him, Bullypaws Rescue and his fight and will to stay alive. Scratchy is my world and for him and Itchy – I will NEVER stop to fight for this breed.

The photo’s above is just 12 months of Scratchy’s life – this boy is a true example of this amazing breed.

The sweet girl on the left, Candy was my first pibble saved off the streets. Sadly, she was a victim of who knows what and we were unable to save her from her demons. She made me want to fight for them and all that goes on. Lucy on the right showed up at a local shelter just 2 months after we lost Candy. Her eye ball had exploded after being attacked. I knew without question that Candy sent her to me to show me she was okay and that she loved me. We adopted Lucy and she’s my “one eyed Lucy Lou”! And then came Gracie, the white pibble in the middle. We decided to foster her for the rescue I am a part of, and failed miserably only a month in. She’s part of the family now! I will never forget Candy and all she taught me, and I will never quit fighting for them. I will fight so they won’t have to.

AMANDA BLUMENSTEIN

This is my little boy Buddy. We rescued him about a year and a half ago and he’s just changed our lives and filled us with so much love. He was found running on a highway in New Hampshire. He only weighed 35 lbs (he was fully grown at the same size he is now and his healthy weight is about 65lbs – just for some perspective). You could see all of his ribs, he had cuts all over him, and a broken tail. We hadn’t even planned to get a dog that day but when we saw him in the shelter, fearful and cowering in the corner, we knew we had to bring him home. It’s hard to imagine now, because he is the happiest pittie in the whole world, but he was so nervous and afraid when we first brought him home. He has given us a family. Every day he greets us with smiles and every night he snuggles under the covers between my fiancé and I. He’s just perfect. A true example of what a pitbull really is: the world’s most gentle giant. This breed is beautiful and loving. They are remarkably resilient and love humans even after experiencing torture by human hands. Buddy is nothing but an innocent creature full of love. Buddy is the biggest blessing I’ve ever been given and he’s a reminder to me every day that pure goodness exists. He’s my angel.
