How would society react to a toddler in a stroller tied to a pole outside of a grocery store while the parents did some shopping or if an infant was left in a car while mom and dad grabbed a quick bite or ran into the bank? How is leaving a helpless child unattended any different than leaving a dog unattended? It is shocking how many people justify leaving their dogs unattended and do it with such indignance.
Leaving animals tied up in front of grocery stores, in cars or ANYWHERE is NOT okay. Animals are helpless and voiceless and they are stolen every day. Many dogs who suffer this fate end up being sold, used as bait and never seen again, leaving us to wonder what they endured. People who steal dogs aren’t doing it because they are animal lovers wanting to provide a loving forever home for a dog. They are sociopathic criminals will terrible intentions.
There is currently a well known convicted dog thief roaming the streets of Hollywood. He’s been arrested and convicted of stealing dogs outside of a Whole Foods and when he gets out of jail he comes right back and tries to do it again. Two months ago he pulled a knife on someone in the area and he has been banned from everywhere in the neighborhood and residents are outraged. He squats in vacant properties and lays on the street and people call the police almost daily and law enforcement says “their hands are tied” and that they have to “catch him in the act.” When laws protect criminals and prevent proper measures from being taken in order to keep humans and pets safe, it’s up to US to do all we can to keep ourselves, loved ones and pets safe.
Do not leave your pets unattended and if you see someone doing it, educate them. Many people just don’t know how common pets being stolen is. You may encounter uneducated people who don’t want to hear your warning and tell you to mind your own business but too bad. They need to hear it and if they’re too stupid to understand it then at least you did all you could.
