It is absolutely mind blowing to think there are actual “breed” ban laws (BSL), people being denied homeowners insurance, places to rent and active duty military being forced to give up their “pit bulls” because “pit bulls” are discriminated against by the US government yet a “pit bull” is a term used to describe a type of dog based solely on it’s appearance. It’s so dumb it’s hard to believe it’s real. This level of dumb is costing tax payers millions of dollars and countless innocent dogs their lives.
I’ve personally seen people call Boxers, Mastiff’s, Labs, American Bulldogs and other dogs with short hair a “pit bull.” When I see it, it usually ends up being an hour long conversation which ends with them saying “then how can they ban them if they don’t really know what “breed” the dogs are?” Which is then followed up with me saying. “Great question. Because it’s easier than dealing with a broken society and doing what it really takes to fix it.” Uneducated law makers have created a massive vague umbrella of discrimination which labels any dog that looks a certain way as “inherently dangerous.”
So it’s up to us to keep educating people about how many innocent and inherently good lives are lost every day due to fear based myths, reckless media hype and ineffective costly discriminatory laws that only perpetuate hate and distract from the truth. Dangerous humans abusing and killing innocent dogs every day in American communities put us, our loved ones and pets at risk and that is not only the truth it is a fact. Pit bull “type” dogs are a direct reflection of an extremely broken society that would take, time, money and hard work to fix and that is not currently our society’s priority.
Be the change you want to see and maybe one day this ignorance will be a shameful part of American history never to be repeated again.
