REPOST from REAL GOOD RESCUE
Please help us give a warm welcome to the newest member of the #RealGoodGang, Betty!
We were alerted of this girl last week and immediately made a plan with one of our fosters and the shelter to meet her today to get a feel of her personality and to make sure she would be a good fit with our foster.
Well, from the second, and we mean literal second, that we laid eyes on her in person, there was no question about it, she was leaving the shelter with us today!
It’s clear that she has been bread several times and not given the care that she needs and deserves, yet she is the yummiest and sweetest nugget!
Prior to meeting her, we sent her shelter medical records, including x-rays, to our vet who said she has the worst case of hip dysplasia that he’s ever seen.
She will be seeing our vet this week for an exam, bloodwork, fecal, medicated bath, have her ears and teeth checked, sort out her cough and runny nose and start her on an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) along with Glycoflex 3 supplements (maximum strength hip and joint support with Glucosamine).
It is highly likely that she will need a double FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery.
If that is the case, we will have her spay surgery done at the time of the FHO surgeries so that she does not need to be put under anesthesia twice.
These next two weeks will be very telling of her future needs and we of course will keep y’all posted.
And last but certainly not least, we want to give a shout out to our friend and fellow squatty hippo loving advocate Rebecca Corry and her Stand Up For Pits Foundation for surprising us with $1,000 Angel Grant for Betty!!
