Jackie Tepper’s 17 year soulmate passed away just a few days before our Christmas for Angels event at the Palmdale Animal Care Center last month. She was devastated and struggling but the morning ofnthe event she reached out to us and asked if she could join us in feeding all the animals. She was scared to go into the shelter and didn’t know how it would make her feel but felt she owed it to Lucky to do something for the animals in her memory, so she did exactly that. She fed all the animals, loved on them and was so moved by the experience and the need for help, she is now considering becoming a shelter volunteer. And two days ago Jackie went to the Downey Shelter and saved a precious life named Max. This morning we are getting Max seen by our vet for a thorough exam and will be providing him medical care for his upper respiratory infection. He is our newest honorary hippo.
We hope sharing this story inspires you all to do what Jackie did. Going into shelters if you have never done it before can feel “too sad” and “scary” and you may think “I could never do that” but the truth is you can and you should. Volunteers are all these precious souls have. Being seen is their only chance at life – especially at Palmdale Animal Care Center and Lancaster Animal Care Center where they are given just days to get out. The gratitude these magical precious beings show you when you give them love and see them will change you forever. Jackie said going to our Christmas For Angels event at the Palmdale Animal Care Center changed her life and now it has saved another named Max. Happy life sweet Max and thank you Jackie Tepper for stepping outside of yourself and opening your heart to do so something you never thought you could do. This is just one of the many reasons our SUFP Serving Angels program is such an important one.
If your shelter would like to be considered to for our Serving Angels Program please email info@standupforpits.us. And we encourage everyone to empower yourselves to become volunteers and work with others in your community to feed the shelter animals. Everyone has the power to be the change they want to see. Be that person.
