We do not and never will support the “No Kill” shelter narrative for many reasons and we will not stop being vocal about it. We’re sick and tired of seeing dogs being killed because people think it is completely safe to dump their dogs at “No Kill” shelters when its not. And the idea these shelters think they can tell us to not use the the word “kill” when sharing dogs who are going to be KILLED is laughable and quite telling about what is really important to them.
When people are told the truth about a dog set to be killed, it encourages immediate action. They foster, adopt, stop buying from breeders, become volunteers etc. How do we know this? Cause we’ve seen it happen for 16 years.
What the truth doesn’t provide is A POWERFUL FUNDRAISING TOOL, A STRONGER PUBLIC IMAGE (PR advantage), A BRANDING SHIELD, POLITICAL PROTECTION or TALKING POINTS IN CAMPAIGNS AND PRESS. You see the “No Kill” narrative looks epic on paper, in newsletters on social media and aligns with public sentiment. Cause most people believe: “Killing animals is wrong” So “no-kill” matches public sentiment which drives engagment and support.
It’s genuis marketing and has clearly proven to be extremely profitable but it’s not reality. Not even close. And wharehousing dogs and denying dogs a chance at life because of optics or fear of compromising the aforementioned perks is wrong. “No Kill” orgs have and continue to prevent the Stand Up For Pits Foundation from sharing dogs they are going to kill or including them in our Hope Campaign program because they do not want us telling people the dogs we are fighting to save will be killed. Imagine how many lives have been lost because they choose optics, money, reputation, agenda and protections over the truth aka a dogs life. This post isn’t about creating conflict but when those in animal welfare intentionally become an obstacle and make saving lives harder than it already is for us – then fuck em. They can either tell the fucking truth or expect more of this. Not saving a dogs life because of optics and telling us what words we can and cannot use isn’t going to be tolerated or kept a secret.
