If CEO’s of nonprofits and shelter heads are taking 90k cash bonuses, over half million dollar or 1.2-million-dollar salaries, getting paid benefits, vacations, sick leave and working four days a week at best with full staff and high overhead while the national animal crisis worsens — that’s on them and you – the general public to decide if you want to support that.
Our posts are not about that. We are posting about Best Friends and what we believe is an extremely damaging “No Kill” narrative and want an on-camera conversation with Julie Castle as well as an all-access LA city “No Kill” shelter walk through. The animals and the public deserve to see and know the truth about what is happening in these shelters, how volunteers are treated and how this little “No Kill” system really works.
The public does not know the difference between city and county shelters. The public does not think dogs get killed in “No Kill” shelters nor are they aware of controlled intake and all the other details involved in this narrative.
Real change starts with education. If we are willing to take the time to have a face to face sit down conversation with Best Friends, then they should be more than willing to do the same.
We have been blocked from tagging by their pages. Encourage them to have this conversation which we will share with everyone nationwide.
*And the rescues who partner with Best Friends are entitled. Funding is always needed but speaking up about a system and narrative that is not working is okay too.
It’s important to remember dogs are not numbers or metrics – they are sentient beings.
