Skid Row is an estimated 50 blocks however that “boundary” where our “leaders” like to keep what has been referred to as the “undesirable” population is not consistent or permanent. Skid Row is now everywhere. The encampments, abandonment and abuse of animals is all over Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. The same few blocks on Skid Row have garnered national attention and outrage but it doesn’t scratch the surface of what is happening everywhere in Southern California.
We are in a state of emergency.
Palmdale, Lancaster & Antelope Valley are dumping grounds for animals. The shelters serving those areas are crippled. Last week we met with DACC officials and the Lancaster Animal Care Center – alone – has over 320 animals.
We are in a state of emergency. 🚨
Skid Row is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s time people start paying attention to the rest of animals suffering, being abandoned and killed in these areas and support the people and orgs fighting to end it.
There must be a moratorium on breeding. A complete and total ban. No exceptions. There must be consequences and prosecutions for those who abandon and hoard animals. There must be strict and regular oversight on so called “sanctuaries.” Mirandas, Bedford, Rick & Eva, Giselles Legacy and the list goes on and on can be prevented if there is regulation. Mentally ill humans cannot be allowed to own animals.
Low cost spay & neuter and resources for underserved communities must be provided and everyone in our communities need to assist our neighbors with helping keep pets with owners. Help your neighbor get their dog spay or neutered. Help fix your neighbors fence if the dog keeps getting out. Help your neighbor with food and supplies if they need it. Educate your community. The more people know, the better they will do.
The Stand Up For Pits Foundation has been funding FREE spays & neuters of pit bull type dogs across America since 2016. Thousands of pit bull type dogs have been helped in underserved communities and every Angel Day we have ever done has been full. It is important to understand when most people are given the opportunity to do the right thing – they will. #standupforpits #crisis
