In 2013 I was asked by Best Friends Animal Society to host one of their events. I had seen their TV show, involvement/use of the Vick dogs, ads everywhere and of course “Save Them All” is what I assumed everyone in animal welfare wanted but I was new to how things really are in this game. I spoke directly to the founders that day (pictured) because I was organizing the One Million Pibble March On Washington DC by myself and thought it would be something they would love to support. I had also spoken to Ledy VanKavage – Senior Legislative Attorney for Best Friends about BSL – which was invaluable and appreciated. Disappointingly Best Friends declined to donate or support the PIBBLE march in any way. They said it was something they “didn’t want to be involved in.” Months later some folks who attended my march also attended the Best Friends conference. They reached out with excitement to tell me my march images were being used while discussing advocacy and activism at the conference.
After 15 years of doing this shit – I’ve learned alot about the business of saving dogs. Most orgs don’t support each other or work together and sadly, more lives would saved if they did. And while it’s okay to not agree on how we all educate, advocate or saves lives, one thing EVERYONE should agree on is doing whatever it takes for as long as it takes to save the fucking animals.
This  post isn’t about picking a fight with anyone – even though I will – it’s about challenging massive well equipped orgs who bring in millions with legal resources and influence to step the fuck up and join us in ending the horrfic animal crisis happening in Los Angeles. So, with all due respect Best Friends Animal Society you don’t get to call a city I have been serving for 15 years “NO KILL” when freezers are full of dead dogs and we’re depleting our resources on dogs being raped, sold and tortured in plain sight every day on Skid Row. julie Castle, perhaps you’ll write a blog about how SUFP is fighting to end the killing & suffering in “No Kill” LA and then join us in that effort. Lemme know when you’re ready. You too PETA.
