The same two city blocks on Skid Row have garnered national attention and outrage and rightfully so. But it is extremely important everyone understand that what is happening on those two blocks is happening ALL OVER Los Angeles, surrounding areas and across the country. There are countless dedicated orgs and individuals fighting to end the same horrors we in Los Angeles are fighting. We encourage you all to educate yourselves about what is happening in your communities and fight back. The horrors being inflicted on animals in a first world country cannot and should not ever be accepted as the norm. The corruption in animal welfare, false narratives, gaslighting and inaction while literally billions of dollars are being made while animals are suffering and dying is sick. This is fixable but it’s clear many with the power don’t want it to end.
We will continue sharing the areas in and around Los Angeles and across the country where animals are suffering unthinkable abuse, abandonment and are being killed.
Houston, Texas has an area known as the “Corridor of Cruelty.” The Corridor of Cruelty is an approximately 14-square-mile area in northeast Houston that has become notorious as a dumping ground for unwanted animals, including those abandoned alive and those found dead. This isn’t an area that just has strays. For years, people have driven there and dumped animals, leaving them on roads, back streets, and dumping sites to fend for themselves. The crisis became widely documented in the late 2000s. CNN reported from the area in 2010. Authorities even installed surveillance in 2012 in an effort to catch people dumping animals. And still in 2025, news crews were documenting dumped and stray dogs as a daily sight. We don’t have a reliable current headcount of how many animals are there at any moment, but people working that roughly 14-square-mile area have reported feeding as many as 100 animals in a single day. This isn’t a shelter. It’s not a sanctioned place to surrender an animal. It’s an area of an American city that became known for people leaving animals behind. That’s the Corridor of Cruelty.
